Why it made the list

Sockets abroad are the wrong shape, and hotel rooms never have enough of them for a laptop, a phone and a camera at once. One grounded body carries two US outlets plus USB charging, so a single wall socket covers the bag.

Who it's not for

Anything that runs on 110 volts only. It changes the plug shape and passes wall voltage straight through, so a US hair dryer, curling iron or older appliance can be damaged in a 220 to 240 volt socket; those need a voltage converter.

Check this before you buy

Read the small print on every charger and appliance you plan to pack and look for INPUT 100-240V on the label. Phone, tablet and laptop chargers normally carry it, heating appliances often do not, and that line is the whole decision.
