The hammock shape does two jobs at once: it keeps hair and mud off the seat, and it stops a dog sliding into the footwell every time you brake. A flat mat only does the first.
Trips where a dog and passengers share the back seat without rearranging. The side flaps convert it, but that is a stop-and-adjust job, not a quick one.
Measure your back seat width and look at your headrest posts. Universal covers usually fall short on anchoring, and that is what determines whether it stays put on the first sharp corner.
