Once the sun goes, a step or a balcony corner is simply a dark patch, and there is no sensible way to get mains power to it. This charges itself through the day and lays a small pool of warm light down on its own at nightfall.
Path or security lighting. Seven small decorative LEDs are what the manufacturer describes, and a shaded corner or a north-facing balcony will not put enough sun on the panel to keep it going.
Look at how much direct sun the spot really gets. Listings for this model quote roughly 6 to 8 hours of daylight charging for 8 to 10 hours of light, so shade cuts the evening short.
