Asparagus, shrimp and diced vegetables fall through the grate and take an age to turn one at a time. The mesh tube holds them together and the handle rolls the basket a quarter turn, so everything gets the same time over the fire.
Large cuts. Roughly 1.9 litres inside a tube about 4 inches across rules out steaks, whole fish or a rack of chicken, and the wooden handle unscrews, which means it can be mislaid and should not sit over direct flame.
Measure your grate. Listed near 9.5 in end to end and 4 in across, the basket also needs clear room to roll, so on a small portable or balcony grill it fills most of the cooking surface.
